DIY Unicorn Calming Glitter Jar

If you deal with your share of adult temper tantrums, calm the eff down with this easy to make (and pretty to look at) DIY Unicorn Calming Glitter Jar!

I have to admit that I actually really hate the unicorn food trend. I hate it! I hate it! I hate it!  There’s nothing appealing to me about the massive amounts of food coloring that goes into making these trendy rainbow treats.  Sure they’re pretty to look at, but I’m not about to color my insides like I just ate a box of Crayola crayons.  And don’t even get me started on the sugar content!

There.  I said it.  Now go ahead and hate me all you want, but I’m going to try and redeem myself today with this glittery AF unicorn project.  Glitter jars have been pretty trendy around Pinterest.  The DIY was originally made to soothe kids when they’re upset.  But let me tell ya – I can throw an adult-sized tantrum like the best of ’em (just ask my husband)!  Move over, kiddos!  This glitter jar is supersized just for adults!

I decided to pretty up my glitter jar even more and throw a golden unicorn on top.  I mean, why the hell not? It’s trendy.  It works!  And chances are, if you’ve been following the slime trend, you practically have everything you need already to make yourself a magical glitter jar!

So the next time you’re drowning in deadlines, your spouse acts like a jerk, or your kids make you want to pull your hair out, grab a glitter jar and give it a good, hard shake!  Just shake the hell out of it while you curse and pour yourself a big glass of wine (well, maybe put the glitter jar down first before you do that last bit)!

SUPPLIES

STEPS

  1. Glue the mason jar lid and seal together with E6000.
  2. Allow glue to dry completely.  Then, glue a unicorn on top of the lid.
  3. Once the unicorn is secure, spray paint it with rose gold paint.  Allow paint to dry completely.
  4. Fill mason jar halfway with warm water.
  5. Squeeze in glitter glue and stir (use a plastic spoon or craft stick).
  6. Pour in purple glitter (I poured in an entire small jar) and stir.
  7. Top off the mason jar with more warm water and add a splash of rubbing alcohol.
  8. Replace the unicorn lid.  Make sure it’s on nice and tight!
  9. Give the jar a good shake and calm the eff down!

There’s definitely something mesmerizing about watching the glitter slowly spin, swirl, and fall.  You’ll magically calm the eff down after making one of these jars!  I am keeping mine by my work desk.

The next time an e-mail rubs me the wrong way or I threaten to throw my computer out the window after seeing yet another rainbow colored food concoction, I’ll take my frustrations out on this unicorn jar instead!

There.  Now don’t you feel better?

I’m over this unicorn thing. But this? Is less unicorn and more awesome, so I’m good with it. 😉

I just want to focus on mermaids, really. But I figured I’d give the unicorn lovers at least ONE project! 😉
