10 Things to Do in Your 30's

As I’ve recently turned another year older, I have come to reflect on my 30’s on a whole so far.  In the four years spent in this new decade in my life, I have experienced my share of trials and tribulations, self-discovery, revelations, and also moments that have solidified the person I’ve truly become. It always amazes me how much can be accomplished in just one year, but there’s always so much room for improvement and growth. I have realized just how far I have come, but I still have so much more I’d like to work on.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY/HEALTH

Now that I’ve gotten back into a workout routine, I realize that I’m not just doing this for vanity anymore.  I’m not getting any younger and with a family history of – oh – all sorts of fun things, it’s been a wake up call for me to take better care of myself.

CHASE YOUR DREAMS

I’m not saying you should just up and quit your 9-to-5 desk job, but don’t settle just because you feel you have to do so.  My dreams of becoming one part Carrie Bradshaw, one part Martha Stewart have definitely become a lot more of a reality for me this past year.  I don’t have a closet stocked with Manolos or a vacation house in the Hamptons, but seeing small success has given me such a huge drive to continue with my chase.

ESTABLISH A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR YOURSELF

Basically, love where you are in life.  Embrace and own it.

LEARN WHEN TO SAY “YES” AND WHEN TO SAY “NO”

I always used to say “yes” a lot to avoid confrontation, but then I learned how much better it feels to stick up for myself, my values, and my worth by saying “no” in certain situations.

GAIN FINANCIAL STABILITY/INDEPENDENCE

Even though my husband and I agreed I would stop working after we got married, I still always liked to have some sort of financial independence. Imagine my surprise when I learned that blogging, something I actually love to do, could earn me money while staying home!

KICK AN OLD HABIT

I haven’t been doing so well with this one.  I keep telling myself to stop biting my nails, but I type this post with nails that might fit into a “micro” category instead of just short.  I could go get them done, but I don’t want to give up the cash for something I could accomplish myself with a little more will and motivation!

LEARN TO LET GO AND FORGIVE FOR BETTER RELATIONSHIPS

We’ve all been hurt.  Whether it’s been in a friendship or romantic relationship, sometimes you just have to let go and forgive to move forward.  Don’t let what happened in the past stop you from having a great future.

MAKE A BIG PURCHASE

Did you just buy your first home or a brand new car?  Congratulations!  Our big purchase this Summer was definitely our puppy.  If you’re financially stable and won’t rack up the credit cards, treat yourself to a great investment!

ADD TO YOUR FAMILY

Whether you feel settled enough to have a child or bring a pet home, your 30’s seem like the perfect time to make the decision.  Whether you’re preparing for a baby or a fur baby, make sure you’re ready for the responsibility.  I’m so glad we waited to bring a pet into our home.  Now just feels like the right time for our new addition and I couldn’t be happier or more excited for our little guy to come home!

LEARN HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF

I once tried to clear a sink drain by myself.  That didn’t go so well.  But I have learned all I need to know about gas lines, handling customer service calls, and resetting a cable box like a boss!  When you’re the only one home during the day, sometimes you have to do it yourself!

What have your 30’s taught you?
