3 DIY No Carve Pumpkin Ideas

One of the things I most enjoy doing during this time of year is visiting a farm to pick pumpkins.  We scour the fields for the perfect pumpkin to bring home, decorate, and display on our front steps.  I used to really love carving into my pumpkin and scooping out the guts and seeds.  As I get older, I don’t enjoy the mess and cleanup that tends to go along with it so much anymore.  That’s why I’m so glad there are so many ways to decorate a pumpkin without having to carve it.

We usually search online for stencils to print, cut out, and use to paint our pumpkins.  Before we do that again this year, I wanted to create a few out-of-the-box no carve pumpkin ideas that would be fun for all ages.  With the help of some Plaid brand supplies, I made three no carve pumpkin ideas that are simple, spooky, and chic!

Glow-in-the-Dark Spooky-Eyed Pumpkin

I found some googly eye push pins at the store a while back that I knew would be perfect to push into pumpkins.  I also used some Mod Podge Glow in the Dark so the pumpkin would give off a spooky glow around the eyes at night.  Add more coats for extra glow!

  • Small pumpkin
  • Black FolkArt paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Mod Podge Glow in the Dark
  • Sponge pouncer brush

  1. Paint your entire pumpkin black except for the stem.  Allow paint to dry completely.
  2. Using your pouncer brush, dot Mod Podge Glow in the Dark where you want to add your googly eyes.  Allow Mod Podge to dry.
  3. Add your googly eyes in the center of your Mod Podge circles.
  4. Activate Mod Podge Glow in the Dark in bright light and display your pumpkin.

Glow-in-the-Dark Polka Dot Pumpkin

Polka dots are timeless, so I created a neon polka dot pumpkin using FolkArt ® Multi-Surface Paints.  These paints can be used indoors or outdoors and resist rust and moisture, making them perfect for pumpkin decorating.  This pumpkin is a non-traditional Halloween look that will glow-in-the-dark at night.

  • Small pumpkin
  • Yellow FolkArt paint
  • Perfect Purple FolkArt paint
  • Pink FolkArt paint
  • Lime Green FolkArt paint
  • Mod Podge Glow in the Dark
  • Sponge pouncer brushes

  1. Using a pouncer brush, add different color polka dots around the surface of your pumpkin.  Clean brush between colors.  Allow paint to dry.
  2. Using a pouncer brush again, now add Mod Podge Glow in the Dark over your polka dots.  Allow Mod Podge to dry.
  3. Activate Mod Podge Glow in the Dark in bright light and display pumpkin.

Note: you may have to use a couple layers of paint so the colors really stand out.

Rhinestone Spiderweb Pumpkin

I had a sheet of rhinestones I picked up from the craft store, as well as some plastic spiders.  My mom gave me a baby pumpkin out of her garden, so I went to work on a chic spiderweb design to add a bit of glam to my Halloween decor.

  • Small pumpkin
  • Rhinestones
  • Hot glue gun
  • Plastic spiders

  1. If using a sheet of rhinestones, measure strips to form a spiderweb around the pumpkin and hot glue.  If using loose rhinestones, draw out your spiderweb design first, then apply stones with hot glue.
  2. Glue a plastic spider onto the spiderweb and display.

Other options: paint pumpkin black first, then apply rhinestone spiderweb.  Use Mod Podge Glow in the Dark to paint on a spider web design.  Then, glue rhinestones onto Mod Podge, making sure some of the area will glow in the dark.
