How to Throw a Seriously Sweet Brunch for Two

August 16, 2017

I received a complimentary bottle of Valdo Prosecco in exchange to photograph and review.  All opinions are 100% my own.  No other compensation has been received for this post.

My husband gets a lot of vacation time and uses most of it over the summer.  When you’ve worked for the same company for a couple of decades, you’ve definitely earned a vacation week or two…or six. Despite having so much time off, we didn’t plan anything too exciting this summer.  My schedule’s been a bit of an unorganized mess. Most days, plans didn’t go much further than dragging my husband along to grab blog supplies or having him help me with a project.  It’s okay.  We’re not much for traveling anyway.

So maybe it wasn’t a summer at the beach, but we’ve definitely had some fun!  That’s the thing about us – even if our plans are totally low key, we still put our own spin on them to make it a good time.  Take hanging out on our deck.  It’s where we spend most of the summer.  Our backyard is our place to escape.  The deck is where we spend sunny afternoons talking.  It’s where we dine al fresco after preparing a meal on the grill.  Most recently, it became a place to for the two of us to brunch.

Brunch doesn’t have to be an extravagant event.  You can create an intimate brunch setting for just two people. All you need are a few sweet treats to eat, a little bit of bubbly, and some creativity!

Keep it simple

Since I was throwing a sweet little brunch for just the two of us, I was able to cut a few corners.  Instead of spending time in the kitchen baking up sweets and putting together platters, I cheated. Everything that I served was store bought. That meant that I spent less time in the kitchen prepping and cleaning up and more time enjoying this small spread with my husband.

Get fresh

A dozen mixed donuts and pastries is definitely a sweet way to enjoy brunch.  Especially when the donuts are as big as your head!  But don’t let your sweet tooth over-indulge on sugary bakery goods alone.  Add something fresh to your table like a small fruit plate.  Summer berries are still in season. They’re a healthier way to satisfy your craving for something sweet.  Plus, the mix of fruit and berries adds some gorgeous color to the table!

Make a small flower arrangement

Speaking of freshness, I absolutely love fresh flowers!  But if you keep refilling your vase every week with store bought bouquets, it can start getting expensive.  Instead, head to the craft store!  I recently found some great floral bundles to use in a DIY project.  Each bundle cost less than a bouquet of fresh flowers.  They may not smell as nice, but they’ll last us a lot longer!

Add a homemade touch

Everyone loves a personal, handmade touch.  Aside from my simple floral arrangement, I also decorated our table with a teacup candle that I made. I used easy melt and pour wax and a vintage looking mug and saucer set I bought super cheap at HomeGoods.  Candles always add great ambiance to any table! Click here for more DIY candle ideas!

Break out the bubbly

No brunch is complete without something bubbly to sip on!  Valdo Prosecco is the perfect accompaniment to a light brunch.  Whether you’re serving food that’s sweet or savory, Valdo Prosecco will pair beautifully with your brunch dishes.  It’s light and crisp with notes of apple and pear.

Prosecco is sparkling wine that’s an affordable alternative to serving champagne.  It has fruitier flavor notes than champagne, so it’s a great brunch beverage!  For more information about Valdo Prosecco visit the Pasternak Wines website.

Summer is winding down, which means it’s the perfect time to start poppin’ bottles over a delicious spread. Whether you’re hosting two or 10, your next brunch will be a sweet success with these simple tips!

We’re the same way. We never can manage to make plans so we end up pulling together a special meal to share and just enjoy each other.

Sometimes I prefer spending time together this way. It’s more intimate and not as hectic.

What a nice idea, will definitly give it a try. Brunch is for me rather some salty-tasty stuff with tortilla (Spanish tortilla de patatas), dips, veggies, cheese, prosciutto – and no booze. Having time off and doing projects is great, but I like the travelling as well, would not want to miss that.
