DIY Creepy Halloween Candy Jars

October 10, 2017

Leftover Halloween candy will look sweet in these DIY Creepy Halloween Candy Jars with disgusting bugs crawling all over them!

I was provided product samples free of charge from Oriental Trading in exchange for my honest opinion. No other compensation was provided for this post.

Last weekend, my husband helped me put up Halloween decorations outside.  I was so excited to have my spooky season back again and spent most of the the day watching Halloween shows on Travel Channel.  I was inspired to make a creepy craft with some Halloween supplies that I had on hand.

You know that I love a good mason jar project.  Since we have so much Halloween candy on hand at the moment (and probably won’t get more than one trick-or-treater, if that), I decided to make creepy candy jars.

But I hate bugs.

I pretty much can’t wait for Summer to end just so I can spend a few months without bugs.  Sure, everything has a purpose.  But when their purpose is to seriously creep me out, they’ve got to go!  Until Halloween, of course.  Then, I’ll kindly invite them back into my space as long as they’re plastic and fake!

You might remember these ants from my DIY Halloween Fairy Garden project.  In this project, they’re making their way up to the top of the mason jar, hoping to get inside and feast on Halloween candy.  Gross!  Then, there’s the spiders.  A couple eight-legged critters decided to join the party and hopped onto a jar of their own!

SUPPLIES

  • Quart mason jar
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glossy black spray paint
  • Plastic spiders
  • Plastic ants
  • Halloween candy

STEPS

  1. Heat a hot glue gun.  When the glue gun is ready, glue the mason jar seal and lid together.
  2. Once the glue is dry, spray paint the lid glossy black.  Allow paint to dry.
  3. On the mason jar, glue plastic spiders or ants.
  4. When the glue is dry, fill the jar with your favorite Halloween candy, put the lid back on, and display!

Remember the Witch Hat Halloween Pretzel Treats that I made last week? I filled these jars with leftover candy from that recipe.  All of that candy was purchased from Oriental Trading.  Want to fill your jars with orange candy?  You can search their candy selection by color!

If you want to leave the sweets to the trick-or-treaters, you can fill these jars with things like spiderwebs, fairy lights, or even a Halloween ghost terrarium!  Whatever you do, make them creepy!

I love how easy these are to make. My daughter could totally do this without tons of help from me.

Definitely! You’ll just have to especially watch with the glue gun. Other than that, it’s a pretty harmless project to make!

I hate bugs, too, and it is one of the reasons summer is my least favorite season! But these are super cute Halloween gift ideas for kids’ parties…bugs and all! Thanks so much for sharing and for linking up with me.

Thanks so much! Bugs are definitely my least favorite thing about summer (with unbearable heat coming in a close second), but they get a pass during Halloween. And only during Halloween! 😉
