DIY Halloween Ghost Terrarium

This weekend was full of fun, Fall activities!  As I said on Friday, we kicked off our weekend with my friend’s wedding.  It was beautiful, she looked beautiful, and I had a great time catching up with some of the girls I went to school with.  Before Hunter’s vet appointment on Saturday, we took him to run around the park.  I think that might have to become a weekend ritual for us!  Hunter really loves having a big, open space to run around and it’s nice to be out in the crisp Fall air.  We treated ourselves to a delicious steak dinner that evening and ended the night around the fire pit.  It was perfect!  But yesterday was back to business as usual as I caught up on some blog work and DIY projects. 

I’m having so much fun creating these Halloween projects and it’s making me wish October would slow down a bit. Before we know it, I’ll be sharing Thanksgiving and Christmas projects!  But before I get ahead of myself, I want to share a fun mason jar project today.  We have cases upon cases of mason jars from canning fresh veggies from our garden.  Since canning season is over for us, I’m finding crafty ways to use some of our jars.  And since I had cheesecloth left over from making Halloween Cheesecloth Ghosts, I decided to make a Halloween ghost terrarium.

SUPPLIES

• Pint mason jar
• 2-inch Styrofoam ball
• Green Reindeer Moss
• Hot glue or super glue
• 16 Gauge Galvanized Steel Wire
• Wire cutters
• Cheesecloth 9sq.ft
  or muslin
• Fabric Stiffener
• Black Sharpie marker

STEPS

1. Glue the jar lid and seal together.
2. Glue a cut Styrofoam ball onto the inner side of the lid. Then, glue reindeer moss on the ball to cover.
3. Create a hook shape with your wire, then cut to fit the inside of the jar. Stick wire into the moss covered styrofoam.
4. Measure small pieces of cheesecloth or muslin over the hooks. Cut and use fabric stiffener to hold the ghostly shapes.
5. Once fabric stiffener is dry, paint eyes on the ghosts.
6. Screw lid onto jar and display your Halloween Ghost Terrarium!

If you’re like me and have a ton of mason jars, you can easily make several of these to place around your Halloween table.  Go beyond ghosts and create tiny gravestones out of clay or even miniature pumpkins!  Hang paper bats with fishing line for another fun terrarium filler!  Happy crafting!
