It’s that time of year when poinsettia plants, Christmas trees, mistletoe, and holly fill the home with color and cheer. We’re the kind of people who like to have plants surrounding us all year ’round. In the Summer, we garden and have a bunch of fresh berry bushes and fruit trees. Everything seems so lush and colorful. So when Fall comes around and it’s time to tear down the garden and clean up the yard, it bums me out a little. All of that color gets drained. Then, the leaves start to fall and Winter usually buries us underneath a blanket of white snow.
Even though our garden is finished for another year, our house is full of many different plants to lend some of that color and life to the cold Winter months. With Christmas just around the corner, I decided to dress up a plain ceramic pot with a little coat of Jolly Ol’ St. Nick inspired paint to display some green among all the red and silver that will soon be all around our house.
SUPPLIES
- Washi tape
- Ceramic pot
- Red paint
- Black paint, or paint marker
- Silver paint marker
- Foam brush
STEPS
- Paint the entire surface of the pot red. Allow to dry.
- Tape off a small band in the middle of the pot with washi tape.
- Paint the sectioned off area in black. Allow to dry.
- Add a buckle with silver paint pen. Allow to dry.
- Add your favorite small plant to the pot and display for Christmas or give as a gift!
Since rosemary trees have become pretty popular around the holidays in recent years, I cut a few fresh sprigs from my still thriving backyard plant to fill my little Santa pot. Instead of dirt, I filled the bottom of the pot with some Styrofoam (or use florist foam) to keep my rosemary sprigs in place. Trim your rosemary as needed to make it look as much like a Christmas tree as possible. These would look really cute around your holiday table or even brought to someone’s house as an extra handmade gift!
