Do One Thing Everyday That Scares You

June 1, 2012

It has been a fabulous start to June and all of this greatness started before 9:00 in the morning!  I woke up bright and early, mainly because my body has its alarm set for 6AM each day.  I watched the news and got a craving for diner food.  I knew if I got diner food, I would start with good intentions (like an egg white omelet) and end up with a side of greasy home fries that would sit heavy in my stomach for the rest of the day.  I got in my car and drove, trying to decide where I could grab breakfast and found myself at Panera Bread.

When I pulled into Panera’s parking lot, I decided to do something that I’ve never done before…dine alone.  You have to understand something–aside from shopping, I don’t normally do anything alone.  I have a weird paranoia about being places alone.  But I decided that I am going to start doing one thing that scares me whenever the occasion strikes.  Over breakfast, I realized how nice is was just to sit at my two seat table by the window, take time to breathe and think.  I called my dad and talked to him for a bit, finished breakfast and then continued to scare myself.

It’s a beautiful day and I left Panera brimming with new confidence from my solo breakfast.  I immediately wanted to go to the park.  I had my sneakers on and was ready to walk.  I don’t normally take walks by myself either.  I drove to a familiar local park and started a fitness walk.  I did two laps around the park’s walking loop, which equals a mile.  It was nice to be out in the morning air, take in the scenery and simply enjoy myself.  I honestly could have kept walking, but I had to get back home to start laundry and cleaning.  I left the park wanting more, reminding myself to bring headphones next time and perhaps invest in a good sports bra and pedometer.

I’ll be out and about again this afternoon taking my sisters to hair appointments for prom!  It’s such an exciting day for them and I’m glad that I get to be a part of it.  Today I am feeling truly blessed and I feel like by day’s end, I will have a lot to write about in my gratitude journal.

Since I’m looking very much forward to more mornings in the park, I want to make a new workout mix.  What are some of your favorite songs on your workout playlist?
