I love this time of year when everything starts to come alive and bloom again.  Of course, that also means my allergies start up again, too.  There is nothing worse than that first sneeze and the familiar itchy, watery eyes that signifies the start of spring allergy season.  I suffer from year-round allergies, but they’re always the worst in the spring and the fall – my two favorite times out of the year to get outside!

The return of warmer weather during the spring makes me want to get outside as much as possible.  There’s nothing I love better during the spring than soaking up sunshine, taking walks in the park, and spending time in our garden.  But some mornings, I just know that I’d rather not go outside and breathe in allergens.  It usually starts with itchy, watery eyes and a sneeze that develops into a runny nose soon after.

So how do you enjoy the outdoors during spring when you want to stay inside an allergy-free bubble?  Today I’m going to share a few tips – including taking prescription strength, over-the-counter Xyzal® Allergy 24HR (available at CVS) – to help you get some much-needed allergy relief so you don’t have to suffer while you’re outside this spring.

After spending the day outside, you pick up a lot of allergens on your clothes and body.  Then, you track them into your home.  Once you’re inside for the day, take a shower and change your clothes.  You’ll feel fresh and won’t have to worry about lingering allergens.

It’s just as important to bathe your pets.  Hunter’s breed is prone to dry skin and irritation, so we try not to bathe him frequently.  During the warmer months, it’s especially important to bathe him because he’s outside with us a lot.  Between baths, I like to wipe him down with pet grooming wipes.  He also loves to be sprayed down with the hose on really warm days!

While we’re washing everything, you might want to wash your bed sheets, too.  The allergens you’ve picked up during the day could end up on your pillow at night.  During allergy season, it’s best to wash your sheets frequently.

We take our shoes off at the door when we come into our house.  But dirt and grass still finds its way inside. Also, when the weather is warm, we like to open all of the windows in our house and get some fresh air inside. On a breezy day, allergens can blow in.  So it’s important to keep the house clean to avoid breathing in more dust and pollen than we need to!

Just like having a cold, allergies need to be flushed out of your system.  Increase your intake of water and drink lots of tea.  I recommend green tea for its great benefits.  If you’re going to sweeten your tea with honey, it’s best to find locally sourced raw honey.  It’s full of antioxidants and great for allergies (you can take a teaspoon alone to help fight allergies, too)!

Taking allergy medicine seems like a no-brainer when you’re suffering from spring allergies.  I’ve tried many allergy products out there, but this spring I’m turning to Xyzal® Allergy 24HR for relief.  Xyzal is conveniently located over-the-counter at CVS.

Taking one Xyzal before bed at night is all I need to feel ready to get outside during the day.  It starts working within 60 minutes and helps me get a better night’s sleep due to the relief of my allergy symptoms. Be sure to read and follow the package instructions. The relief I get from Xyzal lasts throughout the day, too, so I can enjoy all of my outdoor activities.

If you’re sneezing, have itchy and watery eyes, a runny nose, and itchy throat, check out Xyzal for 24 hour allergy relief.  Xyzal is now available over-the-counter at CVS.  You can find Xyzal 24-Hour Allergy Relief in a 10 count, 35 count, 55 count, and 80 count.  Head to CVS before you head outdoors this spring and grab a bottle of Xyzal for allergy relief!
