How to Feel Your Best When You Sit All Day

Five years ago, I was laid off from work.  I used to work in an Accounts Receivable office looking at numbers all day.  Before work got slow, a lot of time I would stay at my desk for lunch.  There wasn’t much to do around my office, so when I actually left work, I would spend my lunch break in the car reading.  On really nice days, a friend who happened to work nearby, would call me to take lunch in the park with her.  But again, we really wouldn’t do much walking unless it was to find a bench to sit and talk.

After I was laid off, my husband and I decided that I would stay home and take on the role of full-time housewife.  From there, I became a full-time blogger.  I once again found myself at a desk most of the day, sitting and staring at a computer.  Thankfully, working from home affords me the opportunity to get up whenever I want. 

Of course, this time of year doesn’t really motivate a person to get outside and get active as much.  The days are getting shorter and it’s getting colder outside.  Bundling up and doing a mile or two in the park or around the neighborhood isn’t that appealing anymore.  But it’s important to stay active and feel your best when you’re sitting most of the day.  Especially this time of year!  So today I’m sharing a few tips to keep you feeling your best even when you’re stuck at your desk.

Start with a daily morning routine

When you work from home, it’s easy to want to fall behind on a routine.  You might want to stay in your pajamas all day, work from the couch (I’m so guilty of that!), or even put off housework.  That’s why I make it a point to get up, get dressed, make the bed, and have a decent breakfast before sitting down to work.  I don’t feel ready to tackle my day unless I complete my morning routine first!

Find a reason to move

When you’re so engrossed in your work, sometimes you’ll sit for long periods of time.  That’s not good for so many reasons!  Instead, save your work and find a reason to move.  I’ll get up throughout the day even if it’s just to stretch. 

If I have the time, I’ll take Hunter for a quick walk even if it’s just to drop a letter in the mailbox.  If I find my desk getting cluttered, I’ll get up and clean.  Recently, I’ve decided to leave a small set of weights in the office by my desk.  Even if I’m sitting, I can at least move my arms!

Feeling your best means that you’ll do your best throughout the day.     I am so guilty of not moving enough when I work (from my couch). I need to focus on that! #client

      My couch has been SO inviting lately! I need to stop making it my office so much and follow my own tips a little more!

    1/2 lunch and 2 15
    minute breaks at work I will now move around and prepare a. Healthy salad ? for
    My lunch no more bread!

    I have a treadmill in the garage and discipline myself as soon as I get home from work to change my clothes and keep repeating to myself
    Keep moving.
