I’ve been on a bread kick lately – making it…eating it.  So with St. Patrick’s Day coming up, I wanted to make some sort of festive bread.  While I could’ve made a gorgeously green focaccia bread (my newest breadmaking obsession), I decided to keep things simple.  I grabbed some refrigerated biscuit dough and put together garlicky, green shamrock biscuits.

It turns out, shamrocks are pretty easy to make out of biscuit dough!  Really, all it takes is a pair of kitchen shears and your fingers to cut and shape the dough into shamrocks.  Then, the biscuits are brushed with a garlic parsley butter before baking.  Once baked, serve them with your favorite St. Patrick’s Day meal!

The fresh parsley gives these biscuits a subtle hint of green.  And while I used parsley in my garlic butter, you can experiment with other fresh herbs likes basil, rosemary, or thyme.  It just depends on the herby flavor you want to add to the garlic butter.

So if you’re looking for something to serve on the side of your St. Patrick’s Day dinner, grab a can of biscuit dough, some kitchen shears, fresh herbs, garlic, and butter!  In about 15 minutes, you’ll have warm and fragrant shamrock biscuits.

First, we need to pop open a can of biscuit dough.  Using kitchen shears, make 4 cuts around the circle of dough.  Then, use your fingers to form three leaves and a stem.  If desired, make smaller cuts in the center of each leaf to form the shamrock’s heart shaped leaves.

Place the shaped biscuits onto an ungreased cookie sheet and set aside.

Next, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.  Stir in garlic powder, salt and pepper, and fresh parsley.  Use a pastry brush to generously brush the top of each biscuit with the garlic butter mixture.
