Good-Night Irene

August 28, 2011

We made it!  We got through the storm.  It was a mostly sleepless night (it was mainly the potential of a tornado warning that kept me awake).  I was awake with my eyes fixed on the news.  Mike was down in the basement making sure that the sewer wasn’t backing up through our floor caps.  The wind has finally died down.

Governor Christie prepared us for the worst, but it wasn’t as terrible as I thought it would be.  We got lucky.  Our power stayed on and we didn’t experience flooding.  However we couldn’t use our water for most of the day because of the sewer.  That sucked.  The shower that I took tonight was absolutely wonderful!

And after stocking up on canned food and thinking we’d be eating tuna for a week, our dinner of angel hair pasta and homemade meat sauce was just about the best tasting meal I’ve had.  Mike and I got adventurous after dinner and took a bike ride to check out the damage around the neighborhood.  We saw a block taped off because a power line was down (don’t worry–we weren’t any where near it), lots of trees and branches knocked over and then we got to Rahway Park.

It’s been an interesting week weather-wise for the east coast.  We can only hope that Mother Nature’s gotten it out of her system.  If not, I can only hope she saves her tantrums for the winter.  I would rather take a blizzard over this!  I hope everyone stay safe and hasn’t endured too much damage.
