Do you know what I absolutely love about the New Year? It’s a clean slate. You get to start over, erase the past, and move forward. I absolutely love the freshness of it all! You get to put up a new calendar, have blank pages to fill in a journal or planner, and it always seems to start with a positive outlook.
Sure, you’ll eventually get hit with some crap that gets tossed your way throughout the year. But if you manage to keep your head up and combat whatever comes your way this year, you’ll look back and see that you achieved so much!
That’s easy to say now. I know. The year is just beginning. Will I still feel this positive and up about everything by midyear? I can only hope so! So before we get into the thick of things, I wanted to write down a few reminders to help, not only for me, but you to kick this year’s ass and do it with a smile on your face!
Ditch the Resolutions, Make Some Goals Instead
I feel like resolutions tend to hang over your head like a little black cloud just waiting for you to fail. Instead, think up or write out a list of realistic goals that you want to achieve this year. “I want to make a million dollars.” Nope. That’s not it. “I want to marry Prince Harry.” I mean, good luck, but allow me to be the one to say that’s probably not going to happen (and if it does, you’re my hero).
Stick to the little things like putting the laundry away as soon as it comes out of the dryer (definitely something I struggle with), not leaving dishes in the sink or making the bed as soon as you wake up, making more time for loved ones, or body positive goals.
Give Yourself the Right Tools to Work With to Achieve Your Goals
I have two main goals that I want to work on right now: eating better and staying focused. So to help me along the way, I did a couple of things. A week before the New Year began, I already had my goal in mind to treat my body better. So I cleaned out our fridge, tossed foods that were expired, and made sure to use up what was left.
This week, I started fresh and now our fridge and cabinets are stocked with healthy, wholesome ingredients. I also purchased The Fast Metabolism Diet Cookbook to help me create nutritious, healthy meals and snacks and downloaded the MyFitnessPal app to stay on track.
I also want to stay focused on one task at a time. In order to keep myself a little more focused, I need to write things down so they’re right in front of my face. So I have made sure that my notebooks and planner are in arm’s reach when I’m working in my office. I bought myself a new EPIC BLOG planner so I can plan my posts and write some of my blogging goals down in one spot.
Don’t Beat Yourself Up
We all slip up from time-to-time. If you told yourself you would only have one slice of pizza and had two slices and a beer instead, give yourself a break. We’re allowed a cheat day every once in a while. It keeps us sane! Just remember to eat better the next day and keep active.
The point is, it’s not worth sulking over when you can start all over again on the right foot. It’s 2017. There’s no need keep looking back and thinking about what you didn’t do last year. Especially since you have a whole new year to work on those achievements!

I’ve been trying to get incredibly organized. With two businesses, I spread myself too thin last year.
I know you’ve had your hands full. Hope 2017 gives you a chance to breathe and meet your goals!
I’m using a life planner for my blog planning this year! It’s helping.
I’ve been using a paper planner the past two years. It’s definitely allowed me to keep better track of things! Glad it’s working out for you, too!
I am all about goals and not even thinking about the term resolutions this year. Great tips!
Thanks so much! Good luck with your goals this year!
