Scare Up Halloween with DIY Crow Decor

October 4, 2017

I was provided product samples free of charge from Oriental Trading in exchange for my honest opinion. No other compensation was provided for this post.

Most years, I wait until the end of September to decorate for Halloween. This year, I couldn’t help myself. I decorated mid-September and enjoyed every minute of it!  It started with some of our outdoor decor.  We had purchased these great Halloween luminaries.  In the store, they were decorated with pots of mums sticking out from the top.  I loved the look and ended up replicating it for our front steps.

First, it was the front steps.  Then, the rest of the house followed.  I had a donation pick-up coming anyway, so I took advantage going up to the attic and got out my Halloween decorations.  I kind of went with a theme this year (because, if you haven’t noticed already, I like themes). The inside of our house looks pretty witchy.

Basically, I wanted to make the house look like a witch lives in it, but I also wanted to keep it pretty simple this year.  I have a few witch-worthy decorations around the house, but my favorite decorated room is the dining room!

Our dining room table is covered in a plaid Halloween tablecloth with a vintage-looking pumpkin pail set on it. We have a buffet that’s such a great piece to decorate during the year!  For Halloween, I draped a spiderweb table runner on top.  We have a speaker/charging dock on the buffet, but it’s easy to decorate around it.  This year, I decided to decorate it with some crows.  So I grabbed supplies from Oriental Trading and made my own DIY Halloween crow decor!

The feathered crows came in a set of two, so I put one in a cage and the other on top of a skull.  Believe it or not, the black birdcage is actually a wedding decoration!  It’s meant to hold cards and other small gifts.  I loved how gothic it looked, so I turned it into an easy Halloween decoration instead!

SUPPLIES

  • Black birdcage
  • Natural moss
  • Feathered crows
  • Resin skull
  • Stretchable spider webs
  • Hot glue gun

STEPS

To make the Halloween birdcage:

  1. Start by opening the top of the cage.  Add natural moss onto the bottom of the cage. Glue the moss onto the bottom, if desired.
  2. Then, position the feathered crow inside.
  3. Close the top of the cage.  Stretch a small amount of spiderweb over the entire cage and display.

To make the skull:

  1. Heat a hot glue gun.
  2. Glue a feathered crow onto the top of the skull.
  3. Stretch a small amount of spiderweb around the skull and display.

These Halloween crow DIYs are super easy to put together, but look spooky good!  If you want to get witchy with your Halloween decor this year, head to Oriental Trading while there’s still time! You can find all of the supplies used in this project on their website.

I don’t usually decorate for Halloween, but I love crows as decor for the holiday!

Yes! They’re perfect for Halloween and even just the Fall!

Now I want a crow. Like, a fake crow – not a real one. Because real ones smell.

Haha! Yeah, real crows are jerks. Smelly, cawing jerks.

Spooky! I love this. When I have my own house one day, I’m totally going to go all out with Halloween decor! It’s my fave for sure.

I definitely want to get more scary Halloween decorations. Most of what I have is on the cuter side. These were a great start! Thanks!

Oooooo…. this is so spooky! And funny enough, we have a bird cage from our wedding decor that has been sitting in a box for over 6 years. This would be a great way to re-use it! 🙂

Thanks, Carrie! I hope I’ve given your bird cage a spooky new purpose!

We use crows all over, I LOVE them. Can I just stay decorated for Halloween all year?

    • Reply Jessica October 9, 2017 at 8:33 AM

I know, right? Every year I threaten to keep my Halloween decorations out. Then again, I do the same with Christmas. Our house could be a hot mess of holiday decor!
