Recently we’ve been making efforts in our home to be more eco-friendly. We’ve added new houseplants, installed a water purifier on our kitchen faucet and I’ve been using tea tree oil around the house. Tea tree oil is most popularly known for its acne fighting properties. There are so many more uses for this amazing essential oil! Since receiving a bottle from Apothecary Extracts, I have been using tea tree oil in my beauty and cleaning routines.
The harsh cold and dry Winter air has done a job on my skin. I recently made a hand scrub to add moisture to my skin. Tea tree oil is naturally anti-bacterial. When added to skin products, it helps to fight off any nasty germs you come in contact with!
ANTIBACTERIAL HAND SCRUB
– Mason jar or other sealed container
– 1/2 tsp. tea tree oil
– Juice of 1 lemon
– 1 cup medium grain sea salt
– 1/3 cup olive oil
– A few drops of lemon, lavender or other essential oil (optional)
1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and stir until blended.
2. Pour mixture into a jar and keep on hand in the bathroom or kitchen.
I have been using this scrub on my hands and my feet! After one use, you can feel the difference. My skin felt so much smoother and softer! It’s definitely been a big help. I didn’t use lemon essential oil in my scrub considering that it already has lemon juice in it. If you have a favorite essential oil, go right ahead and use it in this scrub. Tea tree oil has a strong scent, but the lemon juice on its own seemed to cut it down a bit.
As someone who enjoys having a neat and tidy home, I keep spray cleaners on hand in the kitchen and bathroom at all times. A lot of common cleaners contain toxic chemicals that have a harsh smell. I’ve been trying to replace these cleaners with natural-based ones and most recently created my new favorite cleaner using tea tree oil. This is an all-purpose cleaner that does a great job cleaning up messes in my kitchen! It smells good, too!
ALL-PURPOSE TEA TREE OIL CLEANER
– Clean spray bottle
– 2 tsp. tea tree oil
– 2 cups distilled water
– 6 oz. white vinegar
– 20 drops of essential oil (I used a floral soap scent I had on hand)
1. Pour all of the ingredients into your spray bottle.
2. Replace the nozzle and give it a good shake to combine.
3. Shake before each use to combine ingredients again.
This spray not only cleans up naturally, it deodorizes and disinfects!
Other uses for tea tree oil include:
- skin care
- hair care
- first aid remedies
- stress relief
- toothpaste and mouthwash
- sore muscle relief
- other household cleaners
