Have you ever had one of those days that completely exceeded your expectations? That would be today. It started when I woke up this morning. It was 8:30 and I was woken up by the smell and clatter of breakfast being made by my husband. He made pancakes and bacon. I did the dishes when we were finished eating. As I spent the rest of the morning inside folding laundry and–well, not much else–I heard the sound of digging coming from the backyard. I began to get excited. We had spoken recently about putting in a small patch of garden in our backyard. I was gardening in pots, but that left me limited. A garden would give me a little more freedom to plant.

My husband and his father built me a raised garden bed. It’s just enough for us to plant peppers and tomatoes, radishes and maybe some garlic and scallions, too. Seeing my new garden is giving me an itch for Spring. I can’t wait to plan out our garden and buy plants for it.
My husband washed up for lunch and we had tuna sandwiches. I can cook from scratch. In fact, I’m planning on making homemade pasta tomorrow. But I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to canned goods. I can’t make jello either. But I didn’t screw our lunch up. In fact, I fancied our sandwiches up with with the addition of Dijon mayonnaise, toasted wheat bread and a couple slices of tomato.
When lunch was finished, I joined hubby outside and we washed our cars together. I pulled out our mini-vacuum from the basement and gave the inside of my car a good cleaning as well. We rested afterwards, then got ready for an early evening out. We had a little shopping to do around the mall and then went to spend a gift card we received for Christmas to have dinner at either Olive Garden or Bahama Breeze. The wait for each restaurant was insane (and mind you it wasn’t even 4:30 yet) so we drove home and decided on a low key dinner of pizza. We took a walk to the pizza place near our house to buy a few slices. The walk was cold, but our laughter and conversation kept us warm.
The working week doesn’t give us much time to spend with each other so I cherish weekends like this when there isn’t much going on. I get to spend time with the person I love most just enjoying the simple things. Together.
