The state of the world today can drive you crazy. It can bring you to the brink of tears and make you feel frustrated, angry, and helpless. It can bring out your inner Fiona Apple and make you think “this world is bullshit.” When all of this builds up inside of me, I have to take a pause for positivity. It’s times like this, when the world seems so completely ass-backwards and screwed up, that I am reminded of some of my favorite quotes. They’re quotes of hope, motivation, and inspiration. Something the world could use a lot more of these days.
So today I thought I would keep this post on the light side. I don’t have a new recipe or DIY project to share today. Don’t worry – I’ll be back later in the week with both. Last week was another hard week to stomach. My newsfeed and TV screen filled up with more news about more acts of hate and violence happening around our country and in Barcelona. It’s just becoming all too common and I continue to wonder, “How did we get here?”
It’s 2017. We’re so much better than this, folks.
So I’m simply going to start this week by sharing some inspirational quotes. They’re quotes that will push us forward when the world seems like it’s crumbling down around us. Let these words inspire you and motivate you to do better. Maybe they’ll offer you a little hope or a gentle push as you continue to move forward. If anything, we could all use a little so-called “Monday Motivation” every now and then!
The quotes I’m sharing are from a box of “Start Where You Are” Note Cards. These cards are illustrated by Meera Lee Patel and they’re absolutely beautiful! I’m not all that great at sending snail mail these days, but I would totally frame these note cards and display them as artwork!
“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Real courage is when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.”
Harper Lee
“At first glance it may appear too hard. Look again. Always look again.”
Mary Anne Radmacher
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”
Arthur Ashe
“The world exists only in your eyes. You can make it as big or as small as you want.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
These note cards couldn’t have come at a better time, if you ask me. The Martin Luther King Jr. quote has quickly become a favorite of mine. I hope these quotes have shone a light on the week ahead for you.
I’ll leave you with one last quote from Albus Dumbledore. It’s my absolute favorite. “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

These are too pretty! I’m so jealous of people with watercolor skills. mine haven’t evolved since I was a kid…
Same here! I was never good with watercolor paint. Some people just have the knack!
