My Happy Hour in the Garden + Upcycled Bottle Planter

There’s nothing I love more about the Summer than being able to escape for a moment in my own backyard.  My husband and I take pride in our garden every year and, with each year, seem to expand on the variety of things that we grow.  Our little garden oasis is our happy place during Summertime and the perfect place to take a break during the work day.
When my day gets overwhelming or I feel like I’ve been sitting at my computer for too long, I like to take a moment to enjoy some time outdoors.  I usually check on things in the garden, water our plants and literally stop to smell the roses.  We have plenty of rose bushes to admire!  Some days I’ll follow up on garden tasks, while other days I’ll just merely sit outside on our deck and enjoy a quiet, sunny afternoon.
My Happy Hour in the Garden

Because nothing is more refreshing on a hot, sunny day like a classic Coca-Cola beverage, I recently took a drive to Walgreens to pick up some #ShareaCoke bottles.  I just happened to find two bottles with my name on it and one with my husband’s name to share with him!  Every Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 to 7:00pm, if you buy 1 20 oz. Coca-Cola bottle, you get 1 free 20 oz. bottle to share!  Instantly load the coupon on the Walgreens app or click here for more information.
My Coke bottles were nice and cold from the refrigerator at Walgreens.  So when I got home, I decided to take a bottle outside and work in the garden for a bit.  I planted some flowers I had purchased the day before to put out on our deck.  When I finished my Coke, I thought it might be fun to upcycle my empty bottle into a hanging planter for a couple of the flowers I had left over.
My Happy Hour in the Garden

It was so easy to create this hanging planter.  I washed out my empty Coke bottle, used a craft knife to cut the bottle in half and also poke holes in the sides and bottom of the bottle.  Then I spray painted it in a watermelon pink color, added S-hooks and some chain, and planted a flower in it.
My Happy Hour in the Garden + Recycled Bottle DIY

• Empty 20oz. Coke bottle, washed and dried
• Craft knife
• 2 S-hooks
• Approximately 1ft. small, sturdy chain
• Spray paint
• Potting soil
• Flowers

1. With your bottle washed and dried, carefully use your craft knife to cut the bottle in half.  Cut a hole on each side of the bottle, as well, for your S-hooks.  Make sure to cut a few holes on the bottom of the bottle for drainage.
2. If you’re not outside already, take your bottle and spray paint to spray paint your bottle.  Paint the outside and inside of your bottle.  Allow paint to dry completely.
3. Next, plant a couple, colorful flowers inside of your upcycled planter.
4. Attach your S-hooks and chain to the bottle and display your new planter on a small shepherd’s hook.
