How to Refresh a Pink Bathroom

If you step into a house that hasn’t had too many updates, chances are, you might find a pink bathroom.  Pink and blue bathrooms were pretty popular during the 50’s.  My husband had bought our house before I moved in. He toyed with the idea of gutting the bathroom and redoing it, but the right time slipped away.  Now, we seem to be stuck with our blast from the past!

I’m learning how to embrace our little bathroom.  It might be old, it might be small, and it might be pink (like really pink), but it’s got potential.  Recently, I decided to give it a little update to make it feel a little more modern.  So if your bathroom is stuck in a time warp, today I’m sharing a few easy ways you can bring it into the millennium!  After all, “millennial pink” is now a thing!

PAINT

First, make paint your best friend.  When I moved in, my husband had our bathroom painted in a light shade of blue.  He later repainted it in a shade of blue that could only be described as “bad 80’s nightclub electric blue.” Oh, I hated that color!  I finally convinced him to leave the interior design to me.  The bathroom was repainted in a neutral shade of creamy beige.

The color looked so much better than that horrible shade of blue.  It also brightened the bathroom and made it look bigger!  A couple coats of paint can do wonders!  I recently painted the trim in our bathroom and even that little update made quite a difference!  For the trim, buy yourself a paint sample container.  It’ll be just enough and you should have extra paint for touch-ups!

CLEAN

You have to figure that an old bathroom has a lot of history.  Some you might not want to think about!  This bathroom has definitely seen its share of bleach and elbow grease!  If I can’t get the tub and tile scrubbed right away, I’m at least adamant about keeping the toilet, floor, and sink constantly clean.

Wipe out the sink when you’re done using it.  Clean your hair off of the floor.  Change towels.  Take out the garbage every chance you get.  Little things like that can make a difference between big clean-ups!

ORGANIZE

I absolutely love decorative storage baskets!  They make cleaning up look good!  I have a small wicker basket on top of our toilet to hold our Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong® Mega Rolls. Did you know that they’re 4 regular toilet paper rolls in one?  Quilted Northern® Mega Rolls are great to have on hand in busy bathrooms! That’s why I also keep them in a basket in our linen closet so I never run out!

I recently did a major overhaul in our linen closet.  I needed to head to Target anyway to stock up on a few items for the bathroom.  So I picked up a few new storage baskets while I was there. Our bathroom is really small, so I like to make it look as spacious as possible.  Storage baskets can definitely help keep that space-eating clutter at bay!  They’re functional and nice to look at, as well!

DECORATE

You know those Quilted Northern commercials with the cute bathroom knick-knacks that see everything (like Sir Froggy who likes his bathroom neat and clean with modern touches)?  I have a mermaid in my bathroom who can unfortunately relate.  She sits pretty on the windowsill and watches over everything.  But she adds a nice touch to our nautical-themed bathroom.  So does our air plant and our decorative diffuser.

Give your bathroom a theme and go with it!  I found a nautical shower curtain that perfectly matches our pink and blue tile.  It pulls the entire room together. So before you can say, “The 1950’s called.  They want their bathroom back,” give it a chance!  It turns out, I actually find my bathroom to be pretty whimsical and charming now!

My grandparents own a house from the 50s that has a blue bathroom. The sink and toilet and bathtub are ALL blue!

Oh my gosh! That sounds overwhelmingly blue! Ha! I’m definitely glad we have a white bathtub so it’s not too pink or blue!

My. In laws. Had a pink bathroom. I love that this gives ideas of living with it rather than super expensive remodeling

Yes! Thank you! Until we can (hopefully) eventually get a big remodel in, working with what we have has definitely make it a lot more tolerable!

I know you are probably aware that it’s easy to get your tile color repainted ESPECIALLY when you have your tub re-surfaced. A whole lot cheaper way to bring bathroom up to the 21st century. Be sure they use epoxy paint. BTW, you CAN do it yourself for $30 +

I actually didn’t know that! Thanks for the tip! I’m definitely going to look into the DIY route! 🙂
