This Christmas, ditch the gift bag and give wine bottles a handmade touch with a personalized DIY Felt Santa Hat Wine Bottle Topper!

I’m a pretty easy person to shop for, but if anyone is ever stuck on gift ideas for me, a bottle of wine is always a good gift!  I won’t say “no” to a bottle of wine!  It’s a staple in my kitchen.  I cook with it and like to unwind at the end of the night with a glass (or two).  When it comes to wine, I really don’t discriminate.  I like red, white, rosé, and even green wine.  Depending on my mood, I’ll drink dry or sweet, too.  It doesn’t really matter.  Price isn’t too big of a deal either.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever bought a bottle over $20 (shoutout to “Two Buck Chuck”)!

There are a few people on my Christmas list that are wine drinkers, too, so it’s always an easy gift to include.  Only one person is being gifted a bottle of wine this year, but I might show up to my family’s holiday gathering with a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio or Merlot.  If you’re bringing a bottle of wine with you to your holiday gatherings or just want to give a bottle as a gift this year, you need to make this super easy DIY and dress up the bottle for Christmas!

It’s always so easy just to grab a gift bag from the liquor store while you’re shopping for wine.  They’re usually about a dollar a piece and hanging up near the register.  One stop shopping!  But I love adding a handmade, personalized touch to my gifts.  This Christmas, top your wine bottle with an adorable felt Santa hat!  I promise you, you won’t break the bank with this idea and it’s going to make your bottle of wine look super cute and festive!

So let’s talk about price.  Now is the time to shop for holiday craft supplies!  I’ve seen holiday supplies and decorations already marked down 60-70 percent!  Felt is incredibly cheap.  We’re talking under 50 cents.  Pom-poms are pretty cheap, too.  The trim on the hats is actually a faux fur ribbon.  Of course, you can use craft fur.  I also decided that it would be cute to write names on these hats, so I used a bottle of silver glitter glue that I already had in my craft box.

I know, I know.  My name is on the hat.  But I obviously couldn’t write my recipient’s name on it!  Plus, I’m not going to give a bottle of Charles Shaw as a gift.  I love me some “Two Buck Chuck,” but come on!  It’s $2.99 and I’m not a Scrooge!  So this bottle’s going to stay in my kitchen until I decide to uncork it….which will probably be very soon.

I’m all stocked up on felt and pom-poms so I can make a couple more Santa hats for last minute gifts and gatherings.  Plus, these hats look pretty darn cute all on their own.  So when the wine bottle’s empty, hold onto the hat!  Add it to your tree or display it with your holiday decor.  Throw some lights into the empty wine bottle and “voila!”  Instant Christmas decoration!

SUPPLIES

STEPS

  1. Heat a hot glue gun.  While the glue gun is heating, form felt into a cone shape.
  2. When the glue gun is hot, glue the edges of the cone together.  Cut off excess felt on the bottom.
  3. Next, add the fur trim around the bottom edge of the felt cone.  Cut to size and glue into place.
  4. Add a white pom-pom onto the top of the cone.
  5. Write your recipient’s name on the hat with silver glitter glue.
  6. Allow glitter glue to dry completely, add hat to a wine bottle, and gift!

Okay. So what have we learned today? Jess likes her wine.  Any wine. Charles Shaw, although it’ll do most days, makes you look like a Scrooge if you gift it.  And Santa hats make wine bottles look absolutely freaking adorable!  This Christmas, ditch the gift bag and play dress up with your wine bottles instead!

My favorite crafts are those that look harder than they really are, and this one certainly qualifies. It really upgrades the bottle to a more personal gift. And I really like the commenter’s idea of doing this with soda bottles as well!

Thanks so much! And yes! You can definitely use this project with any bottle. So those who may not drink alcohol (or kids) can still have their very own personalized Santa hat!
