Summer Fun in Atlantic City

August 16, 2013
View from our hotel room

My last two visits to Atlantic City weren’t filled with many wonderful memories.  I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth about Atlantic City after both trips.  I was happy that this last trip proved me wrong.  Third time’s a charm, right?

We got to Atlantic City late Monday afternoon and headed straight to the outlets where we both did some damage, but scored some great deals.  After, we headed to Bally’s for check-in.  My cousin checked us in and informed me that our hotel room was upgraded to a suite.  Our room had an ocean view and overlooked the casino strip.  We relaxed for a bit and then I had my first experience gambling.  We played penny slots and I won some cash.  I had a method–I didn’t allow myself to get too far below what I put in.  It was a strategy that allowed me to win some cash instead of losing any.  I played it safe.  I like my money too much!

Sailor’s Delight

Peel & Eat Shrimp and Volcano Nachos

We had dinner and drinks at Margaritaville.  For dinner, we split appetizers.  We got Peel & Eat Shrimp and Volcano Nachos.  Both were delicious and the perfect accompaniments to a night of drinking!  To drink, I started with a Sailor’s Delight (Sailor Jerry and I are good friends now), followed by a Bahama Mama and finally Havanas and Bananas.  Gambling ensued after dinner, then we called it a night and hung out in our hotel room.  I passed out somewhere around midnight.  I can’t party like I used to!

Storm clouds, raindrops and an ocean background

We spent Tuesday morning at the Pier Shops.  What else is there to do when a storm moves in?  We took our morning Starbucks and sat by the window to watch a very intense storm move through.  We browsed, we shopped, did a little more gambling and when the clouds finally cleared, we headed to the boardwalk for a while.  We grabbed a slice of pizza and I picked up souvenirs.  Then we bought taffy and chocolates at James’ Candy and Fralinger’s Saltwater Taffy (by far the best taffy on the Jersey Shore).

Twizzle

Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Kobe Sliders

Before we headed home, we had an early dinner at The Continental.  We each had a Twizzle (Smirnoff Citrus vodka, strawberry puree and lemon with a red licorice wheel) and once again split appetizers.  My pick was the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps.  Each bite tickled the taste buds with a new flavor and had us guessing each ingredients with every mouthful.  They were delicious!  The Kobe Sliders were melt-in-your-mouth perfection!  Splitting both of these appetizers was just enough for two.

I had such a good time in AC!  I left with some new memories and best of all, no drama!  Next up on my list of trips: a Fall visit back to Lancaster, PA.
