August is National Peach Month and within this peachy summer month is National Dog Day (August 26th).  It’s been a while since I’ve made Hunter any homemade dog treats.  So what better way to celebrate a day devoted entirely to our furry best friends than with a peach dog treat recipe!

While Hunter is pretty much a fan of any food or treat you place in front of him, we like to feed him raw fruits and veggies (dog-friendly, of course) as a healthy snack.  It’s gotten to the point where Hunter knows if we open the fruit or veggie drawers in the fridge.  He knows we’ll always share with him!

Are Peaches Safe for Dogs to Eat?

Peaches are a perfectly safe fruit for dogs to eat.  However, you know the saying “too much of a good thing is a bad thing?”  Giving your dog too much peach can upset their stomach and can be high in sugar.  You also want to avoid letting your dog snack on a peach whole because the pit is toxic and a choking hazard.

But if you want to share this summer fruit with your dog, it’s best to give it to them in small doses, like a slice or cut into chunks, or in one of these frozen dog treats. Not only are these treats loaded with beneficial vitamins and antioxidants, giving your dog a frozen treat on a hot day will be a tasty way to help them cool down!

Three Ingredient Frozen Peach Dog Treats

These frozen peach dog treats are made with just three simple ingredients – fresh peaches, plain Greek yogurt, and honey.  Not only do they have a short ingredient list, they’re quick and easy to make in a blender or food processor!  Freeze them in a cute silicone mold and treat your pup to an icy cool treat!

Add the peaches, Greek yogurt, and honey to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.  If necessary, add a little water at a time just to get the mixture moving.

Once the mixture is smooth, spoon it into the silicone molds.  You might want to place the molds onto a baking sheet to steady them before spooning the mixture into them.

Place the filled molds into the freezer and freeze for about an hour, or until they’re frozen solid.  Then, you can let your furry taste tester give one a try!

We are in the midst of another hot and humid heatwave here in Jersey.  This treat recipe happened at just the right time for Hunter!  By the way he scarfed down the first treat I handed to him, I think that he approves of this pawsitively fruity and refreshing snack!
